Why the name 3WIRE?
Since 1911, the U.S. Navy has perfected the art of aircraft landings on the tumultuous decks of aircraft carriers using a system of four arresting wires. Upon touchdown, the plane’s tailhook will snag one of the wires. Traditionally, the perfect landing places the hook in the very middle of the set of wires (between the #2 and #3 wires). As the plane continues to move forward, it grabs the #3 wire and comes to a stop. So the perfect landing grabs the #3 wire. During his four combat deployments, Sunshine accrued just under 590 carrier arrested landings.
